The Last Shall Be First

Nic Brown Spectre has been murdering the sleep of witching hour instrumental hip-hop fans for years now and, if anything, his wilful scaremongering is becoming more potent with each album he releases. "The Last Shall Be First" is basically a sequence of downtempo vignettes peppered with snippets of hysterical B-movie dialogue predicting earth's imminent demise and despite the brilliant music's suitably dramatic edge, one suspects Spectre's tongue is somewhere in the vicinity of his cheek. Seriously though, instrumental hip-hop doesn't get much better than this. An absolutely must buy. Favorite track: Kush.
